Q. What is Aadhaar?
Ans. Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number that can be obtained by residents of India, based on their biometric and demographic data. The process for Aadhaar enrolment of residents of the country involves the use of certain basic demographic information combined with ten fingerprints, both irises and photograph to uniquely identify a resident through a process of de-duplication. An Aadhaar number issued to an individual shall not be reassigned to any other individual. An Aadhaar number shall be a random number and bear no relation to the attributes or identity of the Aadhaar number holder. No resident can have a duplicate number since it is linked to their individual biometrics; thereby identifying fake and ghost identities.
Q. Will getting Aadhaar to be compulsory? Ans. Residents who are eligible for Aadhaar can apply for Aadhaar as per the provisions of the Aadhaar Act and the Regulations framed thereunder. Similarly, agencies providing benefits and services may choose to use Aadhaar in their systems and may require that their beneficiaries or customers provide their Aadhaar for these services.
Q. What information is required to be provided by an individual to get Aadhaar? Ans. Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Regulations, 2016 provides for demographic and biometrics information required during the Aadhaar enrolment process as per the details given below: Demographic information required –
Q. What is the enrolment procedure for children below the age of 5 years? Ans. Children under the age of 5 years. For children under 5 years of age, their Aadhaar is linked to one of their parents or guardians. Such children need to submit their biometric information (Photograph, ten Fingerprints, and two Irises) once they attain the age of 5 years. These biometrics need to be updated again when they attain the age of 15 years.
Q. Where can I enroll for Aadhaar? Ans. You have to visit an Aadhaar Enrolment center set up by Enrolment Agency to enroll for Aadhaar. You can also search nearest Enrolment Center by clicking on “Locate Enrolment Center” or https://appointments.uidai.gov.in/easearch.aspx. You have to enter State, District, and locality to find the nearest enrolment center.
Q. What are the documents required for enrolment for Aadhaar? Ans. You need to fill up an application form available at the Enrollment Center along with supporting documents which are Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA), Proof of Relationship (PoR), and Date of Birth(DoB) document. UIDAI accepts 31 PoI and 44 PoA, 14 PoR, and 14 DoB documents. View the nationally valid list of supporting documents.
Q. Do I need to bring original documents for Aadhaar enrolment? Ans. Yes, you need to bring original copies of supporting documents for Aadhaar enrolment. These original copies will be scanned and handed back to you after the enrolment.
Q. What kind of data gets captured during Aadhaar Enrolment? Ans. There are two types of data gets captured for Aadhaar enrolment i.e. Demographic (Name, Gender, DoB, Address, Mobile number, and email ID) & Bioemtric (10 Fingerprints, Both Iris and photograph). Mobile number and email ID are optional.

Q. Is it mandatory to provide mobile number or email id for Aadhaar enrolment? Ans. No, it is not mandatory to provide a mobile number or email id for Aadhaar enrolment. But it is always recommended to provide a mobile number and email id so that you get updates regarding your Aadhaar application status and can get a number of services based on Aadhaar through OTP-based authentication.
Q. Can I get myself enrolled for Aadhaar just by sending the required documents by Post? Ans. No, you have to personally visit the Aadhaar enrolment center to get yourself Enrolled as your Biometrics will be captured.

Q. My Date of Birth/ Name/ Gender update request got rejected and I have been asked to contact the Regional Office. Can I do that update at Aadhaar Seva Kendra? Ans. Yes. The second time update of Date of Birth or Gender or third time update of the Name of the resident comes under ‘exception update’. You can carry out the update at the Aadhaar Centre and then approach the concerned Regional Office of UIDAI for approval of the update under exception. Q. I lost my Aadhaar and my mobile number is also not registered with Aadhaar. Can I get it at ASK? Ans. Yes. You may visit any UIDAI-run Aadhaar Seva Kendra to download your Aadhaar and get a printout. At ASK you would be required to provide your Aadhaar number. This service is also available at the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre in Banks, Post Offices, BSNL, and Central or State Government offices.
Q. I did not get my Aadhaar Card. Can I get it at the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre? Ans. You can download your Aadhaar yourself from myAadhaar portal. For the same, you need to have a mobile number registered with Aadhaar.
Q. How will the biometrics of the differently abled and people with no fingerprints or rugged hands e.g. beedi workers or people with no fingers be captured? Ans. The exceptions in the biometric standards prescribed will ensure that these groups are not excluded from enrolment. In the case of people without hands/ fingers, only photo will be used for identity determination and there will be markers to determine uniqueness. Please ensure that the operator has taken exception photographs at the time of enrolment.
Q. Can I get Enrolled for Aadhaar if any of my fingers or iris is missing? Ans. Yes, you can enroll for Aadhaar even if any or all fingers / Iris are missing. Aadhaar software has provisions to handle such exceptions.
Q. Can I get my Aadhaar letter downloaded online after it is generated? Ans. Yes, once your Aadhaar is generated, you can always download the e-Aadhaar letter by clicking on “Download Aadhaar” under ‘Get Aadhaar’ section of ‘My Aadhaar’ tab on the uidai.gov.in website.
Q. Do I need to visit the same enrolment center for updation and also where my original enrolment was done? Ans. No, you can visit any nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Update Centre for updation.
Q. 2nd time Date of Birth (DoB) update request got rejected (DoB update limit crossed). What should I do now? Ans. To know the provision for updating Date of Birth (DoB) for the 2nd time, please follow the provisions as per SOP available at : Procedure for updating the DOB.
Q. 2nd time Gender update request got rejected (Gender update limit crossed), What should I do now? Ans. You can carry out 2nd time Gender update through exception handling. For the same, you can carry out the update at the Aadhaar Centre and then approach the concerned Regional Office of UIDAI for approval of the update under an exception. The process to be followed for the second time Gender update is elaborated in SOP available at : Procedure for updating the Gender for the 2nd time.
Q. 3rd time my Name update request got rejected (Name update limit crossed), How can I get my Name updated now? Ans. Resident can carry out 3rd time Name update through exception handling. For the same, you can carry out the update at the Aadhaar Centre and then approach the concerned Regional Office of UIDAI for approval of the update under exception. The process to be followed for updating the Name for the third time is elaborated in SOP available at : Procedure for updating the Name for the 3rd time.
Q. Can I update Biometrics (FingerPrints/ Iris/Photograph) in Aadhaar? Ans. Yes, you can update your Biometrics (FingerPrints/ Iris/Photograph) in Aadhaar. For Biometrics updates, you need to visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
Q. Can I update the Date of Birth (DoB) in my Aadhaar? Ans. Yes. you can update the Date of Birth (DOB) in your Aadhaar only once. Beyond limit, it shall be taken as an exception case. Cases exceeding above limit shall be considered as an exception case. In such cases, the resident can put an update request at the Aadhaar Centre and then approach the concerned Regional Office of UIDAI for approval of the update under exception. After due diligence by Authorized officials, the request shall be approved/rejected. You can update the Date of Birth (DoB) in your Aadhaar with a valid Date of Birth (DoB) proof having your name. Q. Do I need to bring original documents for updation at the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre? Ans. Yes, you need to bring original documents for updation at the Aadhaar Enrolment Centre. Please ensure to collect the original documents, after they are scanned by the operator.
Q. How much time does it take to get an updation in Aadhaar? Ans. Normally 90% of the update request is completed within 30 days.
Q. I have lost my mobile number/ do not possess the number that I enrolled with Aadhaar. How should I submit my update request? Ans. In case you have lost/no longer possess the mobile number that is registered in your Aadhaar, you have to personally visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrolment Centre to update your mobile number in your Aadhaar. Please note update of the mobile number in Aadhaar cannot be done through online mode.
Q. Will the Aadhaar be delivered after updating the mobile number or email id? Ans. Aadhaar letter will not be delivered after updating the mobile number or email id. For update of the mobile number or email id, a notification will be sent to the given mobile number (and not to email id).
Q. How can I retrieve lost/forgotten Aadhaar number where the mobile number is linked with the Aadhaar? Ans. The lost/forgotten Aadhaar number can be retrieved online by visiting the following link https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/retrieve-eid-uid Process: – Please select your requirement – Aadhaar/EID you want to retrieve- enter full name as in Aadhaar, mobile number/email linked with Aadhaar, and Captcha, followed by OTP. After mobile OTP-based authentication, the Aadhaar number/EID as per request will be sent through SMS to the linked mobile number. This service is free of cost.
Q. How can I find my lost/forgotten Aadhaar number, in case my mobile number is not linked with the Aadhaar? Ans. UIDAI provides multiple options to trace or retrieve your lost/forgotten Aadhaar number, even if your mobile/email id is not linked with Aadhaar. Option I: Aadhaar number can be retrieved with the help of an operator at the Aadhaar enrolment center using the “Print Aadhaar” service.

In case the requirement could not be traced due to the presence of multiple records, additional available demographic details such as year of birth, C/O, State, etc may also be provided for narrowing the search.

Option II: Aadhaar holder can opt for the facility to order PVC card service available at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/genricPVC where the applicant to enter the 12-digit Aadhaar number or 28-digit EID and Captcha. This facility is available for Aadhaar holder who linked their mobile with Aadhaar or not. In case the mobile number of the Aadhaar holder is linked, he shall be provided with a provision to track the status of his order by providing an AWB number. |
